Recycled plastics, renewable raw materials and innovative material alternatives: Choosing the right material is an important step towards more sustainable packaging solutions. E-K-S offers different material options that combine resource efficiency with functionality and quality.
100% PCR: Keeping Valuable Resources in Circulation
Plastics do not necessarily have to become waste after their first use. By using Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) materials, previously used plastics can be processed and reused in the production of new products.
E-K-S offers various packaging components made from 100% PCR material, helping to reduce the demand for virgin fossil-based resources while giving existing materials a second life.
Especially for durable packaging components such as carrying handles, closures and reinforcement elements, recycled materials combine responsible resource management with the requirements of industrial packaging applications.
E-K-S Bioline® Sugarcane: Using Renewable Resources
In addition to recycled plastics, bio-based materials provide further opportunities for resource-efficient packaging design.
E-K-S Bioline® Sugarcane is based on sustainably sourced sugarcane and offers an alternative to conventional fossil-based plastics.
The material is mechanically recyclable, allowing valuable resources to be recovered and reused after the product’s service life. At the same time, it provides the technical properties required for functional and durable packaging components.
E-K-S Bioline® Paper Fibre: Another Material Alternative
With E-K-S Bioline® Paper Fibre, E-K-S offers an additional bio-based material option.
This material combines ISCC PLUS-certified corn starch with by-products from the PEFC-certified wood industry. By using renewable resources and existing industrial residues, it helps reduce dependence on fossil-based raw materials.
The material is mechanically recyclable, biodegradable and industrially compostable according to DIN EN 13432, creating additional opportunities for the development of sustainable packaging components.
Combining Sustainability with Functionality
Not every material is suitable for every application. The key is to find the right balance between material properties, technical requirements and the intended product lifecycle.
At E-K-S, our approach focuses on combining resource efficiency, durability and technical performance.
Whether using recycled plastics or bio-based alternatives, the right material choice can help make packaging more resource-efficient without compromising the functionality required for industrial applications.
